Geocache Description:

Formerly the Newbury Trail Gas-ish Saver, the cache is located on the Newbury Trail, off of Lake View Rd. There is one brook crossing that may be difficult during times of high water, use caution.

Update 12/3/2020: It was recently brought to my attention that a new parking ordinance has been put in place for the Newbury Trail head that now prohibits parking at the actual trailhead. Trailhead parking for the trail is now set at the Information Booth on Route 103 - adding about 0.15 miles of road walk each way to get to the cache. A parking waypoint has been added. - jon+meg.

Update 10/27/17: OK OK, it's not really a gas saver as you have to walk part way into the woods across a brook to get to it, but it does help you find the trailhead for the rest of the mini series.... This cache is part of a new mini series I decided to place on the - what I felt was an underutilized - Newbury Trail in Newbury, NH. This trail is one of the hand full of routes to Lake Solitude and the summit of Mt. Sunapee. This cache is the Gas Saver of the mini series as there are two other caches along this hike to Lake Solitude (where there are also two more at the lake and one more at the Summit of Mt. Sunapee).

Normally this trail seems as if it doesn't receive as much traffic as the other routes up the mountain, but even after a week of rain and a very muddy trail I still managed to see a good 20 people over the course of the hike. The series of three caches itself will use up a good two to three hours depending on your speed and hiking ability level. This gas saver is about 70 yards from the trailhead, and is the gas saver for Eagles Nest and South Peak Ledges caches.

The Newbury Trail is considered a moderate hike with a few short steep sections. Be Advised There is a brook crossing between the trailhead and the cache location, and at times of high water, it can be difficult to get across. Mild hiking experience is encouraged.

Parking is on Route 103 at the information booth. This will add approximately 0.15 miles to and from the trailhead to your hike. Use caution when crossing Route 103 as there is no marked crosswalk. Parking at the trailhead itself is prohibited.

Cache contains a log book, pencil(s) and a FTF item.
