Geocache Description:

Located on the Newbury Trail, Newbury, NH. There are two brook crossings that may be difficult at times of high water, please use caution.

Update 12/3/2020: It was recently brought to my attention that a new parking ordinance has been put in place for the Newbury Trail head that now prohibits parking at the actual trailhead. Trailhead parking for the trail is now set at the Information Booth on Route 103 - adding about 0.15 miles of road walk each way to get to the cache. A parking waypoint has been added. - jon+meg.

This cache is the second in the Newbury Trail mini series of caches. Located at Eagles Nest on a spur path from the Newbury Trail. This viewpoint has a great view to East/Southeast for the minimal effort involved getting there. Because there are not many trail descriptions out there on the Newbury Trail here is a brief description of the trail to the cache:

The Newbury Trail starts on the northern side of Lake View Rd in Newbury, NH almost immediately crossing a brook. Use caution at this crossing during times of high water. Snaking its way up the hill sometimes quite steeply the trail crosses into Mt. Sunapee State Park about 0.15 miles from the trailhead. The trail then quickly gains an old logging road and climbs at a more easy to moderate pace. At 0.4 miles or so turn right at a cairn onto a well trod path with white and red blazes. The trail easily walks through the woods for about 0.1 miles before encountering the second brook crossing. Continuing on a nice easy path through the woods passing one viewpoint about 30 feet downhill of the trail another 0.1 miles from the brook crossing. The view point and the end of the trail is reached another 0.1 mile further.

This is a great place for a picnic or for a nice quick hike in the woods. Parking is at the Information Booth down on Route 103, adding about 0.15 miles to your hike both directions.

Please Note: Me and a few other cachers have been having issues getting the correct coordinates right at the cache location. The current coordinates now bring you as close to the cache location as I could accurately get, but not right to it.

The cache contains a few trade items, log book, pen and a FTF item.
