XII JAMBOREE AÇORIANO - PONTA DELGADA
IGREJA DO COLÉGIO DOS JESUITAS Construída pelos Jesuítas, a
Igreja do Colégio de Ponta Delgada esteve encerrada durante 40
anos, tendo-se tornado museu de Arte Sacra integrando-se no
projecto governamental de defesa e valorização do património
arquitectónico e cultural da Região. Na Igreja do Colégio estão
reunidas peças do espólio do templo, que se encontram à guarda do
Museu Carlos Machado, e outras representativas da arte sacra
regional. Com uma fachada barroca de uma beleza rara e uma talha de
uma monumentalidade impressionante, a igreja que os Jesuítas
construíram em Ponta Delgada no século XVII é considerada pelos
especialistas com um dos mais excepcionais conjuntos existentes no
território português.
The Jesuit college’s church Built by the Jesuits, the
College’s church in Ponta Delgada was closed for 40 years,
and has now become a museum of Sacred art, as part of the
government’s project in maintaining and promoting the
architectural and cultural heritage of the region. The
college’s church now includes pieces that were once part of
the active church, and that are now maintained by the Museum Carlos
Machado, and other pieces which are representative of the regional
sacred art. The building has a baroque façade of rare beauty and
the woodcarving is monumental. This church, built by the Jesuits in
Ponta Delgada in the XVII century is considered by the specialists
one of the most exceptional examples in the Portuguese
territory.
