XII JAMBOREE AÇORIANO - LAGOA
A Lagoa começou a ser povoada pouco depois da descoberta da Ilha
de S. Miguel. Os seus primeiros habitantes estabeleceram-se nos
locais, onde mais tarde surgiram, as vilas de Lagoa e Água de
Pau.
A Lagoa foi o local escolhido pela sua abrigada enseada,
tornando-se desde cedo local de embarque e desembarque. Foi a
partir do Porto dos Carneiros que foi lançado gado, incluindo
carneiros, e outros animais na Ilha.
“A villa d’ALagoa, chamada assim por uma que teve
defronte da porta da Egreja principal acima d’um recife e
porto que tem onde podiam entrar bateis, na qual antigamente se
tomou já muito pescado, por entrar ás vezes o mar nela, e bebia o
gado e nadavam por passatempo algumas pessoas
(…).”

‘Lagoa’ was first populated after the discovery of São
Miguel island. The island’s first inhabitants established in
the areas which originated the villages of ‘Lagoa’ and
‘Água de Pau’. ‘Lagoa’ was chosen due to
its sheltered bay, quickly becoming a prime point for embarking and
disembarking. It was in the local ‘Porto dos Carneiros’
(port of the lambs) that cattle, including lambs, were first
released in the island. “The village of Lagoa, so called due
to the presence, in front of the main church door, of a reef and a
port, through which boats could enter. In former times fishing took
place, the cattle could drink, and some people swam as a hobby
