Geocache Description:

Hike up to the Imp Face in the Carter range of the White Mountains of NH. Small container with impressive views.

“Don’t Be An Imp”

The Kruegerfour family and in-laws were camping at Dolly Copp campground in June 2009, just North of the mighty Mount Washington on Route 16 in Gorham, NH and we were awestruck by the beauty of the mountains there. To the south was Mount Washington, to the West was Mount Madison and to the East was this cool looking Mount Imp Face (see picture)

Well after staring at this for a couple of days we drove to the north trail head and parked on the east side of Route 16. Trail starts at N44 19.394 W71 13.009. With 8 hikers and 2 black lab dogs we were off. This is a great hike! And climbs easily for a little while until you cross a stream and then it seems to get much steeper. There are several places to stop and look to the North at great views. The trail winds around in a CW direction and after about 1 ½ hour (2.2 miles) you will be on the top of the face. Steep cliff drops so be careful. It really doesn’t look like a face when you’re up there. But if the weather is good you will be rewarded with spectacular views. The surrounding presidential range is most awesome.

We liked this view and hike so much, we decided to set a cache so others can enjoy too.
I had an old prescription bottle in my pack and we included a unique natural logging material, Please bring a pen to sign. The cache should be winter friendly, but you can never be sure. Take lots of pictures to post. The cache can be found at N 44 19.282 W 71 11.373
Lastly you have a choice. Go back down the way you came or continue around the trail which passes numerous streams and more great views, you will come to an intersection (see picture)

Stay on the trail to Pinkham Notch Rt. 16 for another 3.1 miles of descent. You will end up about 0.3 miles from where you started. N44 19.187 W 71 13.014. Whoooo Hooooo. Now you won’t be accused of being an “IMP”
We look forward to reading your descriptive logs.
Distance: Around loop, about 6.5 miles, Time 5 hours
