Geocache Description:

Glacial rock, ledge outcroppings, forest, and swampy areas typical of this area, which is part of Wakefield Town Forest..In my childhood, Happy Hollow always seemed kind of a spooky, magical place, with its huge erratics forming many "caves" to explore.

The cache is a white plastic cylinder with an orange screwtop. Initial contents are logbook, pen, pencil, 2 AA batteries, a quarter, a hotwheels car, a compass, and a pen/light. If you prefer a short easy hike, park on Holland Road near Oak Street - you will be able to enter the forest without going thru anyone's yard. If you want a longer and more challenging hike, park at JJ Round Park on Main Street and start climbing! There are trails, but kids don't play or hunt in the woods like my friends and I did, so the trails I knew well are now hard to discern. I played Cowboys and Indians here in Happy Hollow 60+ years ago. Perhaps there was a farm many years before that - there are remnants of an old well near the little pond. Bring repellant; the bugs can be fierce in summer. In winter, we used to skate on the little pond here; or we'd pass through Happy Hollow on our way to the bigger pond a little further to the north - that pond was large enough to support a good game of hockey!.
