This Regular Cache is located at the Easternmost Limestone Lake in
Height of the Rockies Provincial Park.
The Cache (and the lake) is at 2352 metres altitude.
17 km of hike at 1300m of elevation gain from the Joffre
Creek
trailhead on the Kootenay-Palliser Forest Service road.
Limestone Lakes is definately an amazing place to visit, but bring
your backpacking and routefinding skills.
The hike is described in "Hikes around Invermere and the Columbia
Valley" by Matt Gunn and Aaron Cameron, ISBN 0-921102-53-4
This is a multi-day backpacking trip, and requires route finding
skills to get there. The first 11 km of trail to Sylvan pass is
maintained, after which you must ascend the ridge to the west of
Sylvan pass, then south through a karst valley up a bench on the
west side of the karst valley to a pass which descends to the
Lakes. This is a difficult trip but
well worth it, If I were you I would plan on spending at least two
nights at the lakes (there are more lakes to the west of the cache
location). Most people will also need an additional night on the
way there, I suggest camping in the meadows right before Sylvan
pass to recover from the artery cleansing climb up the Joffre Creek
trail so you can enjoy the fun stuff while fresh. You can make it
out from the Lakes to the trailhead in a long day.
This cache is probably in one of the most amazing places in the
Rockies. Please be safe getting there, Respect all BC parks rules,
and please Leave No Trace.
