The cache is located just below the Old Excelsior Lookout site. The fire lookout was built in the mid- 1930s and removed in 1968. On a clear day you can see Mt Baker and all the mountains in a 360 degree range.
To get there take highway 542 - Mt. Baker highway to the Canyon Creek Road, 2 miles pass the town of Glacier. Take the Canyon Creek Rd and follow the Damfino lake signs at the intersections. It is about 15 miles to the trailhead. The road is rough in a few places.
You will need a NW Forest Pass or a vehicle parking pass. You can get one at the Glacier Park Service Center, located just pass the town of Glacier. Day parking passes are $5.
A good map to use is the Green Trails, Mt Baker, Wa.-No. 13 and the book Hiking Whatcom County by Ken Wilcox.
Depending on the weather it is hikeable from July to October.
The round trip hike is a little over 5 miles.
Take some insect repellent with you as there were lots of mosquites and biting flies.
