Geocache Description:

Bats Are Taking To The County Beltways!

The cache is a micro sized hide, that can only hold a log.
BYOP!

The drive is easy and parking is in the Downtown/Strip District area. There is a pay lot off of Smallman St. or you could use the convention center garage. Don't expect free parking around here...

There should be no muggles around, but you never know. There is some evidence that people might fish here.

This is the fifth in a new series of caches that will take you to interesting places along Allegeny County's Belt System.
The belts are routes that use existing roads, and are colored by the rainbow, Red being the outermost and Purple being the innermost.

These routes predate the interstate system by years, and are still useful today. I have always told my girls that if they get lost in the county, the belts will always take them to somewhere they know, even if it takes awhile... See the website link for details on the Belt System.

This cache takes you to downtown Pittsburgh. The Purple Belt is the "Cultural Loop" and basically outlines the triangle of downtown. The cache is off of a trail that begins at the Convention Center and runs east up the Allegheny. Bring your camera to get the waymark at the trailhead!

Access is off of a side trail from a paved bike/walking trail on the Allegheny, but you will not be able to take your bike down the final trail. The terrain after you leave the main trail gets a bit rough, especially if it has been raining. The cache is at the edge of the river, so use extreme caution going down the bluff hill. I would take not younger children down the hill. The cache blends in pretty well. The cache is at river's edge, so if the rivers are high and GZ seems to be out in the water, you may want to come back in a week or so...

This one should be a challenge, but not too outrageous.
Thanks for taking my little tour of the Allegheny County Belt System!

Congrats to Saff on FTF!
