PT: Este complexo é composto pelo farol, com uma
habitação anexa destinada ao faroleiro. O complexo está situado a
107 metros de altura, no cimo de uma falésia na costa oeste da Ilha
de S. Miguel.
O Farol da Ferraria começou por figurar no Plano Geral de
Alumiamento e Balizagem aprovado em 1883, mas foi estabecido apenas
em 22 de Outubro de 1901, conforme o Aviso aos Navegantes n.º 18,
desse mesmo dia: «Tendo terminado o período de experiências, deverá
a luz do Farol da Ferraria começar a funcionar definitivamente a
partir de 9 do próximo mês de Novembro.».
Sendo no início a fonte luminosa um candeeiro de nível
constante, foi substituído mais tarde pela incandescência do vapor
de petróleo. A rotação da óptica era produzida pela máquina de
relojoaria.
O farol foi electrificado em 1957 com a montagem de grupos
electrogéneos. A fonte luminosa passou a ser uma lâmpada de 3000W.
Em 1974 foi montado um motor eléctrico para dar corda à máquina de
relojoaria, uma invenção do chefe do farol (Bettencourt Leça), numa
prova inequívoca de que a necessidade aguça o engenho.
O farol acabou por ser electrificado com energia da rede pública
em 1988, ficando a funcionar com uma lâmpada de 1000W/120V e com
motores de rotação eléctricos.
EN: This lighthouse is composed by the tower and a house
for the keeper. It's placed 107 metros above sea level on west
coast of S. Miguel island.
The lighthouse of Ferraria appeared for the first time on Plano
Geral de Alumiamento e Balizagem approved in 1883 but was only
established on 22 October 1901, as said the Navigators Notice No.
18, that same day: "Having finished the period of experience the
light from the lighthouse of Ferraria will finally start on 9 of
next November."
In the beginning the light source was a lamp of constant level,
later replaced by an incandescent oil vapor. The rotation of the
optic was produced by a clock machine.
The lighthouse was electrified in 1957 with electrogenic groups.
The light source has become a 3000W lamp. In 1974 an electric motor
was mounted to feed the the clock machine, an invention of the
chief of the lighthouse (Bettencourt Leça), a clear proof that the
need sharpens the work.
The lamp has been electrified with public energy in 1988,
getting to work with a lamp 1000W/120V and rotation from electric
motors.
Visitas ao Farol / Visiting the
lighthouse
PT: O farol pode ser visitado, mas unicamente na parte da
tarde e com a devida autorização do faroleiro. Sem estas condições
não se pode entrar nas instalações do farol.
EN: The lighthouse can be visited, but only at afternoons
and with the permission of the lighthouse keeper. Without these
conditions it is forbidden to enter the lighthouse facilities.
