Une cache pour rendre hommage à Monsieur Jacques Vion
un sapeurs pompiers "mort au feu ".

Jacques Vion,né le 30 mai 1937 à Allogny (cher),est entré au Corps des Sapeurs-pompiers de Toulouse en 1960 comme sapeur de 2ème classe.

Caporal en 1962,puis Caporal-chef en 1966,il s'occupait notamment de la formation des jeunes recrues.

En 1967 il réussit l'examen de sous-officier et est nommé Sergent-Chef.

En 1969, il passe le concours de Sous-lieutenant et est nommé en fin d'année au CSP de Boulingrin (futur CSP Lougnon) seule caserne à l'époque.

Il est recruté sur sa demande au mois de juillet 1970 au Service Départemental d'Incendie et de Secours du Var, à Draguignan.

Le 2 octobre 1970 vers 13h00 éclate un violent feu de forêt à une vingtaine de kilomètre de Draguignan,sur la commune de La Garde Freinet.

Le sous -lieutenant Vion Officier de permanence est dépêché sur les lieux. Ce jour -là, le Mistral est très violent et le feu a pris énormément d'ampleur.

Au volant de sa 4L de permanence, J.Vion approche à quelques centaines de mètres d'une villa que les sapeurs de La Garde Freinet tentent de protéger avec 2 CCF.

La 4L dérape et se couche sur le côte, les deux roues dans un fossé rendu invisible par l'opacité des fumées.

Ne connaissant pas le secteur, et se fiant au bruit des motopompes, il décide,pour se protéger,de se diriger vers les CCF.

A une centaine de mètres de là, deux chemins s'offrent à lui. Il pris malheureusement celui qui l'éloigna des engins. Pris par l'intensité de la chaleur, il ne tarde pas à s'écrouler en appelant à l'aide.

Le chef d'agrès de l'un des CCF l'entendit crier. Il partit à sa recherche et n'eut qu'a parcourir une centaine de mètres. Il ramena sur son dos le sous-lieutenant jusqu'aux engins. Les sapeurs lui prodiguèrent les premiers soins.

A la vue de la gravité des brûlures ils demandèrent un hélicoptère d'urgence et fut transporté directement à l'hôpital de la Timone à Marseille. Là le corps médical décida de le transférer immédiatement vers l'hôpital des grands brûlés à Lyon où il décèdera le lendemain, 3Octobre 1970 vers 15h00 à l'âge de 33 ans

Il fut promu ,à titre posthume, Lieutenant et décoré de la médaille d'or pour acte de courage et dévouement

Ce feu parcouru quant à lui près de 7000hectares et fît 3 autres victimes: un sous -officier et deux Caporaux de Toulon venus en renfort.

A cache tribute to Mr. Jacques Vion
a firefighters' death to fire.

Jacques Vion, born May 30, 1937 at Allogny (expensive), joined the Corps of Fire services of Toulouse in 1960 as a 2nd class fireman.

Corporal in 1962 and Master Corporal in 1966, he was involved in the training of young recruits.

In 1967 he passes the NCO and was appointed Sergeant-Chef.

In 1969, he spent the help of Lieutenant and was appointed by year-end CSP Lawn Bowling (Lougnon future CSP) only barracks at the time.

He was hired at his request in July 1970 to the Departmental Fire and Rescue Var, Draguignan.

On October 2, 1970 at around 13h00 broke a violent forest fire about twenty km from Draguignan, in the municipality of La Garde Freinet.

The lieutenant on duty Vion Officer was dispatched to the scene. That day, the Mistral is very violent and the fire has grown enormously.

At the wheel of his tenure 4L, J. Vion approach to a few hundred meters from a house fire that La Garde Freinet trying to protect with 2 CCF.

The 4L skids and lies on the coast, the two wheels in a ditch made invisible by the smoke opacity.

Not knowing the area, and relying on the sound of pumps, he decided to protect themselves, to head the RTC.

A hundred yards away, two paths open to him. It unfortunately took one which left gear. Taken by the intensity of the heat, it was not long before collapsing, calling for help.

The leader of a rigging RTC heard screaming. He started his research and has had to travel a hundred yards. He brought her back to the lieutenant up gear. The sappers were lavish first aid.

In view of the severity of burns they demanded an emergency helicopter and was transported directly to the Hospital of Timone in Marseille. Here the medical profession decided to transfer him immediately to hospital for severe burns in Lyon and died there the following day, October 3, 1970 around 15h00 at the age of 33 years

He was promoted posthumously Lieutenant and awarded the gold medal for his bravery and dedication

The fire covered about him almost 7000hectares and had 3 other victims: one sergeant and two corporals of Toulon came as reinforcements.
