Amazing Location, Tucked Away, Tribute To The Original Wishbone Tree
This cache was born after a failed attempt to locate Wishbone Tree (GC16K42). It had not been found in nearly 2 years. We were hoping to change that. Unfortunately there was a great deal of erosion at ground zero. We didn't want the location to go to waste. As a tribute to the original we placed a new cache not far from the original coordinates in a safer/more dry area where the cache can't be washed out into the lake. This is a regular cache. It is a Rubbermaid type container apx 4"x6"x2". It has an orange band tied around it. Please keep/re-use return the orange band each time the cache is re-hidden. I recommend parking/starting at: N40° 36.893 E140° 56.766 Once you are parked you will need to walk across the bridge to begin your hunt. Don't take the low/level/obvious path. You need the trail that goes straight up the hill on the left. Be sure to hold on to the ropes provided and be careful! This hike will take you 20-40 minutes each way depending on your physical condition, experience and number in your party. I also recommend marking several way points along the way so you don't get lost on your return. The original contents include: - New 2 GB Kingston USB Thumb Drive (For the FTF) - DDRAMS' Denali National Park Geocoin (Trackable) - USA Geocoin H2 (Trackable) - Sushi cell phone charm - Oklahoma Pin - Misawa Geocachers Pin - US Army Reserve Military Challenge Coin placed in memory of Abjects Brother (1961-2009) - Post-it Note Pad (Log) - Mechanical Pencil This location/cache are kid friendly but I'd only recommend for children old enough/capable of making the entire hike on their own to include some moderate climbing for a short distance in the very beginning. This is by far one of the coolest Geocache locations in Northern Japan! Cache on!

Went back out with MasterPo. Went around to the far side this time and found the creek!

Still there! Boy, I am smoked from yesterday's hike near "Look for the Monkey's" and "Shrine at Anmon Falls". Rainy and slippery but no problems here, mate!

First to find, w00t!

This cache is absolutely well worth the trip. It's up a road you'd normally miss if you were going up Oriase gorge but it's still part of the overall national park around Lake Towada and is absolutely breathtaking. The cache is situated very close to Akanuma (Red Marsh), which is actually more like a lake that is surrounded by steep hills. On the hillside across from the cache, there's an exposed face of red rock (perhaps that's where the name comes from?). The initial climb is no joke and the cache description is absolutely accurate. I made the hike on a rainy day and there are several portions of the trail whose sides are very ingrown with chest-level plants (if you're 5'9", that is). When I finally found the cache I was soaked from head to toe -- I remembered to wear my boots! but no other rain gear -- and thoroughly happy. While I was taking pictures of the lake, I heard, "konnichi wa!" and turned around to see an elderly Japanese lady who clearly had a better planning sense than I as she was covered from head to toe in rain coat, rain boots, rain hood and umbrella.

The cache is in pretty good shape except that I'm afraid that I snapped off the plastic lid's tab. The container is still perfectly fine but you'll need to take a bit of extra care in getting the lid off without trashing it. I have already bought a replacement lock n' lock and made arrangements with CATMCommando to go replace the container sometime within the next week or two.

Took: FTF prize, memorial challenge coin, and grabbed the travelers.
Left: Tactical Support Center challenge coin, Japanese toy puzzle
Signed log. Thanks for the extraordinarily beautiful cache location!

Placed the USA Geocoin H2 and DDRAMS' Denali National Park Geocoins in hopes of drawing more people to this amazing location! Bring your camera and enjoy the stunning views of this hidden lake.
