Geocache Description:

This a long up hill hike. There are no springs or water so bring plenty and do not forget the animals need water too. There are several starting options so take a look at the maps and plan accordingly.

Back in my days as a wilderness ranger I maintained the trail up to this site from 1980 through 1984. We came in from Davis Lake up Ranger creek. When we reached the summit we'd always say "Maiden Peak 10-8" That is Forest Service jargon for a lookout manned. Since even our little hand held radios would broadcast across most of the Willamette and Deschutes National Forests from up there the respective dispatches would get a chuckle out of it.
The hike was a real slog back when I was young ...it is still a good cardio workout so do not try it unless you are in decent shape. The trail is a bit better marked towards the top than it was back in the 1980's but take care up there and keep an eye out for the trail markers. First finders prize is $10 bucks. The views are awesome bring a camera, maps and binoculars and enjoy. Please re-hide well. And I say it again...do not forget water!
