Geocache Description:

This is a night cache that will involve teamwork and some form of telecommunication.

Please note: There is no cache at the posted co-ordinates.  To find the cache, please follow the instructions below!

To find this cache you will need to split up into two teams and have some form of communication between the teams. Some suggestions are:

  • Texting (Email, SMS, MSN, etc.)
  • Cellphone voice call
  • FRS Radios
  • Flashlight signaling (Morse code, different colors, waving, etc.)
  • Yelling

After agreeing on a method of communication, one team should head down the left trailhead at N 43° 35.062 W 079° 58.229 and the other team should head down the right trailhead at N 43° 35.087 W 079° 58.195.

In just over 200m down the trails each team will reach the first of the three stages of reflectors. Stage 1 has brown reflectors (which look orange under direct light but are brown up close), stage 2 has white reflectors and stage 3 has orange reflectors. The three stages can be visited in any order but both teams colours must match when doing the following procedure.

First look for two vertical reflectors of the required colour next to the trail. These are there just to help you locate the stage. Step a couple of meters off the trail toward the direction of the other team and look for three vertical reflectors near the trail and three horizontal reflectors further in. Stand as close to the vertical reflectors as possible.

Now here comes the fun part. Communicate to the other team that you are ready and shine your flashlight at the horizontal reflectors. When the other team does the same determine if the tree they are illuminating is to the left, center or right of the tree you're pointing at. Keep track of this information for the final calculation.

After you do this for all 3 stages you will have 6 pieces of information, 3 from the left trail and 3 from the right trail. Look up your answers in the tables below. This will give you 6 sets of north and west corrections that you must add or subtract from the posted coordinates. This will give you the location of the final.

Depending on where you determine the final is you can continue down the trails as they join up eventually or go back to the trailheads and continue on from there. The final is about 100m from a trail.

Keep an eye out for poison ivy as some has been spotted in the area. Watch your footing as the trails are rocky in places and may be slippery depending on the weather.
