The trail starts on a logging road near the end of Timberline Drive
off Hurricane Mountain road. Please be considerate of home owners
there and do not park at the end of the road or near the trail
head, but lower down where there is more space. Trail finding may
be a bit of a challenge. At three siginificant forks, take the
right-hand tine. A lone trail sign on the way will be visible only
after you make the correct choice! Later, you may note another
wooden sign on a tree, this one marked "Wounded Knee Brook."
(An alternate way to reach this cache --- with fewer trail
following issues --- is from the Weeks Brook trail that starts on
Hardwood Hill Road (FR 317) off Green Hill Road in Chatham ---
about 0.4 miles North of the end of Hurricane Mountain road. That
trail ascends Kearsage North a.k.a. Pequawket Mountain. In fact,
from an open area not too far from the cache, you get a grand view
of Kearsarge North including the fire tower on top, beckoning you
to ascend the rest of the way to Ravengal's Kearsage cache! After
about 3 miles, as you approach the general area of the cache ---
when the arrow on your GPS starts pointing off to the side --- turn
left at a trail junction. You'll then be on the trail described
above. This approach is a bit longer and involves 1100' altitude
gain. We give our thanks to the maintainer of the Weeks Brook trail
--- Howard Vinton?).
