Cederberg Rock Formations and San Bushman Paintings
Stadsaal Caves is a series of open caves and San paintings dating from the time when elephants freely roamed the area. The original inhabitants of the Cederberg region, the San Bushman, left a treasure of rock paintings dating back 1000 years. The paintings of the elephants are some of the most accessible and well known rock paintings. These can be seen at the Stadsaal Caves. Some of the most spectacular rock formation shaped and sculptured by the wind over millions of years can be seen here.
You need a permit to visit the caves and these can be obtained from Dwarsrivier (Sanddrif), Kromrivier farm or at Cederberg Oasis.
