Geocache Description:

This cache has two items (and now a wonderful GeoCoin left by someone else) and the logsheet. If you take one of the items, please leave something else in its place.

Take a walk down this memorable lane. It is one of two parcels of land in all of Palo Alto that does not have a clear deed of ownership.

The history goes back to 1926 when Col Jones subvidided the now known Barron Park lands for development. History tells us on the day he deeded the lands there was a dispute with the county over some prior taxes.

In total frustration, Col Jones is said to have chased the clerk away at the end of his shotgun and removed this memorable lane from the deed as a means of forever creating a thorn in the side of the county and the community.

In 1973, when Palo Alto accepted the unincorporated lands of South Palo Alto from the county, they took ownership of all but this memorable lane.

To this day, this unclaimed land is a thorn in the communites side and is often the subject of tales in the local rag ... from drinking, drugs and even murder!

Got your interest peaked? Come, take a walk down a memorable lane and enjoy the hunt for an easy cache...
