Geocache Description:

This cache is located at the Aurora Brick Schoolhouse on Route 179, just off Route 9. Easy terrain 9 months of the year, use snowshoes in deep snow. Unless we get hit really hard, this should be winter friendly.

The Aurora Brick Schoolhouse was built in 1827 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. A typical one-room schoolhouse with Federal-style architecture, this building has been maintained well by the Town of Aurora. Behind the school you can still see the outhouse with a "girl's side" and a "boy's side". Also, take a look at the front side of the schoolhouse facing the road and note the bow in the wall that has occurred over the years. I can envision the kids sitting inside learning their lessons and can imagine a naughty young lad pulling on the pigtail of the girl sitting in front of him when the teacher wasn't looking. Enjoy this historic landmark!
