It's back by popular demand! Well actually February the 14th comes around regardless. However, if you are looking for something special to impress your geocaching sweetheart this event might be just the ticket.

For those of you that didn't attend last years Valentines Day event there was a strong desire to see a repeat in 2010 and who are we to deny the fun. As with last years event there will be a car rally type race preceeding the event with a geocoin prize for the winning team and a couple of random drawn prizes also.

If you just want to attend the event that's fine, meet us all at the above co-ordinates at 4pm for a get together, some caching discussion and a BYO bbq tea. The co-ords are on Rabbit Island so sorry no dogs allowed. Mr KE will bring two gas bbq's for everyone to share. If you are recent geocaching converts it would be extra great to see you there. Events are a great chance to learn more about your new hobby, pick the brains of other cachers and to discover that you are not the only one with obsession issues.

More details on the car rally/treasure hunt/FTF race will follow but it will start this year at 1pm from the same place as last time (S 41° 18.888 E 173° 14.200). Detailed instructions will be given at 12.45pm. We have given the format of the race a bit of thought and hopefully have something even better this year. Translated: Hopefully you won't be tripping over each other as much and there are bound to be devious fences and grassy hills involved along the way. If you haven't got a sweetheart on the day and want some company "for the race" that can probably be arranged.

Before we make preparations for the race it would be good to get an registration of interest, there needs to be a critical mass to make it worthwhile putting together. So when you post your "Will Attend" log on this event please indicate if you will participate in the race. Remember it's not about winning it's about having fun. (Mrs KE made me write that bit).

If the day is wet - and lets be realistic Mr KE can't always be expected to control the weather - the race will still take place but we will return from Rabbit Island to a drier spot for the bbq. Details will be published here if the need arises.

We thoroughly enjoyed the event and meeting fellow geocachers, especially an old work mate of many years ago!! The cake was very enjoyable as well. A big thank you to KE for organising this event. We look forward to next year!!

This was a most informative and enjoyable event Cache. As newcomers we learnt quite a bit about geocaching, in particular the nature of travel bugs. On the way to and from Rabbit island near Nelson we found many caches and saw some interesting places. So we thank KIWI EXPLORER for organising this get-together.

Well, a belated Happy Birthday to Mr KE - thanks for sharing your birthday cake with us!!!
A great wee event - no chance of that many people turning up for an event on the Coast.
We can now put a lot more faces to names, and nice to catch up with the few folk we had met before. We'll have to see how our schedule works out next year (if there is a 3rd date!) and see if we can manage to make it for the race.

Best wishes & Happy caching
Annie & PB
