Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Geocaching/Benchmarking Double Feature!! By stopping here you will hopefully get 2 finds: 1 Geocache and 1 Benchmark. Good luck!

First about Benchmarking:
A benchmark is a point whose position is known to a high degree of accuracy and is normally marked in some way. The marker is often a metal disk made for this purpose, but it can also be a church spire, a radio tower, a mark chiseled into stone, or a metal rod driven into the ground.

Using your GPS unit and/or written directions provided by NGS, which are available for review by the public, you can seek out NGS survey benchmarkers and other items that have been marked in the USA.

About the cache:

The cache is nothing out of the ordinary and hopefully you will find it without too much trouble. More importantly, in between the small parking on the road and GZ, there is a metal-disk type benchmark in the stone at your feet.

I have not done a lot of benchmarking because I have always had trouble determining which one I found when I go online to log it, and it can be difficult. But as with geocaching, the more you do it, the easier it is.

For you convenience, I have identified this benchmark for you. It can be accessed with the Point ID: OB0219.

Good luck finding this cache and what may be your first Benchmark!
