Get Your Kicks On Route 66
Enjoy your drive down the Mother Road.

The intent of this series is to point out historic or unique places along old route 66 between IL and CA. It is NOT meant to be a power trail as caches may be 50 miles or more apart. Stop and enjoy these sights along the way.

This cache is on the old Chain of Rocks Bridge (RT 66). You can walk or ride your bike. It is a great place for a picnic as there are picnic tables on the bridge. You have a fantastic view of the Mississippi. You also get to walk among the trees and look down into the flood plain forest. This is a really neat spot that I highly recommend visiting.

The bridge is open every day from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.

You can start on the Illinois or Missouri side of the bridge. But I highly recomend the IL side. There are lots of car breakins on the MO side (including two cachers). Security on the IL side is much better and I have never heard of a break in on the IL side.

This is a virtual cache. There is no log or cache hid.

The way it works is you go to the coordinates which is the IL/MO border. On the roadbed you will see some markers painted in black. One says Missouri _______ and the other says Illinois ________. They are about a square foot. There are also metal signs that say the same thing. After you find them, you can log the cache. But you have to email me what the markers say under Illinois and Missouri. (It is the same on both of them.)

Looking at the map, it appears this is not at the border after all. But it is marked on the bridge as if it was the border.

Back again, to redeem myself on this one. Brought the high-sensitivity Garmin to make sure that I was right on GZ. It turned out that I was plenty close with the iPhone last time. My "coincidental match" answer was within a reasonable distance of GZ, but it didn't quite match the question. Failed to notice that in my haste to catch a flight, so I just scribbled down what I thought was the answer and was off. E-mailed the correct answer this time.

This was my first virtual cache! It was a pretty easy one too.

Find #2 of 3 for today on a scenic walk with Dawn21388! I have lived in this area and passed by this bridge a million times, but I have never walked it or come any closer than it's neighboring interstate: 270. Great walk, beautiful view!

Out on a nice "warm" day as the sun was shining and the snow was melting. There were quite a few people out walking. Email on it the way. TFTC.
