Geocache Description:

I am placing a couple of caches today to celebrate my Birthday - not telling which one but Dr. R N Harger's "drunkometer," 1st breath test, introduced in Indiana!!!!!!!!! - Hope you enjoy the cache and have a drink for me!!. This is a small clip box container - will take small swaps and travel
bugs.

A traditional cache located on the scenic Emley Village Trail which begins at Emley Cross. The trail is approximately 3 miles long. This Trail has been researched and designed by the children of Emley First School with the help of Emley Footpath Society. There is a leaflet available giving details of the trail from www.denbydale.com/content/emleyvillage. Parking is available in the car park behind the Post Office. There are other possible caches along this walk including Clough Dike, Ivy’s Friend and “It’s My Birthday And I’ll Cache If I Want To #1

Emley is a village located midway between Huddersfield and Wakefield with a population of 1867 according to the 2001 Census.

Emley was mentioned in the 1086 Doomsday Book. The village was known as Emmesleia. The white stone in the centre of the village is the remains of the market cross, the upper part being destroyed during the Civil War.

A well known landmark is the Emley Moor TV Transmitting Station. This mast replaced one which collapsed on the 19th March l969 after accumulation of ice and strong winds.

A traditional event which takes place every seven years is the 17 mile Emley Boundary Walk. The event has been going since about 1857, the most recent was held in 2007.

Stout footwear is recommended as paths are often muddy.
