Geocache Description:

This being our first cache we thought we would base it on some of our family’s favorite things: in this case The Beatles and the Pixar movie Cars - thus the cache name. Inside the cache you’ll find some Beatles memorabilia, some Cars related trinkets, and a special audio treat for the FTF.

The cache is located off the Dry Brook trail in Skinner State Park. Best parking is at [N42 17.385 W72 36.054] right in front of the trailhead for the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail. Terrain is listed as a 2.5 primarily due to the rock outcropping at the trailhead. The “official” trail has you scramble over the rocks, however they can also be easily circumvented by using the path immediately to the right (you’ll step over some logs and go up and around the rocks). After that it is a pleasant walk first on the M+M trail and then onto Dry Brook (follow the red blazes).

Parking is roadside on a one-way dirt road accesible from Route 47 near the Hockanum Cemetery. The cache is about a quarter-mile from the parking area as the crow flies. If you have the time and are up for a nice hike, I would highly suggest a walk to the summit, either via the M+M or Dry Brook trails.

According to the AMC Massachusetts Trail Guide “ the red-blazed Dry Brook Trail on the south side of Mt. Holyoke makes a good snowshoe and ski route in winter and a pleasant hiking route in spring because of the profusion of wildflowers”.

The views from the summit are outstanding, and if you’re lucky you’ll spot a hang-glider – or “human kite” as my daughter calls them.

Note: These coordinates should be pretty accurate – the GPSr had us to within 20ft or so, but the area is surrounded by lots of tall pines (thus the Difficulty rating of 2) so if you get more accurate numbers feel free to post them in the logs.
