Esta é uma série de caches inspirados na
preservação ferroviaria, que, além de
proporcionar tudo o que o geocaching oferece, como aventura,
diversão e motivo para conhecermos lugares novos,
também nos incentiva a descobrir ( ou re-descobrir ) o mundo
das ferrovias, que tanto foram úteis nos primórdios
do desenvolvimento de nosso país.
O cache dos imigrantes é o primeiro da série. Esse
local é bastante significativo e importante nessa
história, pois era o local onde chegaram muitos dos
imigrantes que fizeram parte do crescimento da cidade de São
Paulo e do interior do estado.
Os imigrantes ( Portugueses, Espanhois, Italianos, Japoneses,
Alemães, entre outros ), chegavam ao Brasil em navios que
atracavam no porto de Santos, e de lá, vinham para
São Paulo e daqui, para o interior do estado onde iam
trabalhar nas fazendas de café.
A viagem de Santos à São Paulo era feita de trem,
através de uma linha da SPR - São Paulo Railway,
contruída pelo Barão de Mauá e engenheiros
ingleses, no fim do século 19, que inicialmente servia para
transporte de carga ( Café ), do interior de São
Paulo para o porto de Santos. O tracho da subida da serra foi uma
espetecular obra de engenharia, que dividiu a serra em segmentos de
aclive, ligados por patamares onde ficavam grandes máquinas
a vapor, que puxavam os trens através de cabos de
aço, até a estação do topo da serra (
Paranapiacaba ).
Chegando à cidade de São Paulo, os imigrantes eram
acolhidos no que era então a "Hospedaria dos Imigrantes".
Lá tinham dormitório, alimentação,
tratamento médico, além de ter seus documentos
regularizados e conseguirem empregos.
Hoje o local foi transformado no Memorial do Imigrante, e conta
com museu, lanchonete, lojas e uma unidade da ABPF (
Associação Brasileira de Preservação
Ferroviária ), que mantém a estação
original, e todo o material ferroviário. A ABPF promove um
passeio de trem a vapor aos sábados domingos e feriados, com
os mesmos carros utilizados na época da
imigração.
O local fica aberto de terça a domingo, das 10 as 17
horas, e cobra entrada. ( No último sabado de cada mês
a entrada é gratuita )

This is a series of caches
inspired by the railway preservation, which, besides providing all
the geocaching offers, such as adventure, fun and reason to know
new places, also encourages us to discover (or rediscover) the
world of railways, that were very important to the
early development of our country.
The cache of immigrants is the
first of the series. This location is very
significant and important in this story because it was the place
where many immigrants came who participated in the growth of the
city of Sao Paulo and in the state.
Immigrants (Portuguese,
Spanish, Italian, Japanese, German, etc.), arrived in Brazil on
ships that docked at the port of Santos, and from there, came to
Sao Paulo and from there to the country side of the state where
they went to work on coffee plantations.
The journey from Santos to Sao
Paulo was made by train, through a line of the SPR - Sao Paulo
Railway, built by the Baron of Maua and English engineers in the
late 19th century, which originally served to transport cargo
(Coffee), from the Sao Paulo country side to the
port of Santos. The ascent of the mountain was
a espetecular engineering project, which split the mountain in
segments of slope, connected by plateaus where they were big steam
engines that pulled trains through steel cables, to the station on
top of the mountain ( Paranapiacaba).
Arriving at the city of Sao
Paulo, immigrants were welcomed into what was then the "Hostel of
Immigrants." There were dorm, food, medical
treatment, in addition to their documents and get settled
jobs.
Today the site was transformed
into the Immigration Museum, and has a museum, cafeteria, shops and
a unit of ABPF (Brazilian Association of Railway Preservation),
which maintains the original station, and all the rolling
stock. The ABPF promotes a ride steam
train on Saturdays Sundays and holidays, with the same cars used at
the time of immigration.
The site is open Tuesday to
Sunday from 10 to 17 hours, and charge entry. (Last Saturday of each month
admission is free)
