Geocache Description:

SNCITO

The GEOCACHERS OF EASTERN ONTARIO (GEO) will be running a Cache In Trash Out event on Saturday April 24, 2010. This cleanup will be focusing on cleaning up pre-selected sites along the shorelines of nearby creeks and rivers, as well as some conservation areas, trails, and forest properties.

MEET at Cass Bridge Conservation Area (Posted coordinates) for the Taste of the Nation breakfast, which will commence promptly at 8:00 AM. This catered breakfast will feature FREE pancakes with locally produced maple syrup and locally produced sausages for all the participants in the CITO who RSVP by logging a "will attend" BEFORE APRIL 10.

From 8:45 AM to 9:00 AM geocachers will be separated (or separate themselves) into groups. These groups will be given a task cleanup site in the general vicinity. We will do our best to match up the difficulty of the pre-selected sites with the ambitiousness of the individual groups. Keep your eyes peeled for geocaches posted in this region just before the event, because "Cache In" is just as fun as "Trash Out"!

At 9:00 AM the groups will organize carpooling/travel arrangements, and clean up their site. We would like everyone to return to Cass Bridge Conservation Area by 12:50 PM, allowing a little bit of time for caching, in case you encounter a few new ones on your travels!

At 1:00 PM we will be comparing how much trash was collected by our hard-working teams, taking group photos, and giving out a couple of hard earned prizes. Afterwards, everyone is free to go their separate ways, although a few new local caches might keep you busy. Additionally, GEO is hosting an event cache gathering in this area later this day.

PLEASE USE THE “WILL ATTEND” option to indicate how many people you are bringing out. This will help us plan our day. Be sure to check back on this page for updates!

UPDATE APRIL 20: GEO is still committed to providing a FREE breakfast to all geocachers who properly logged a “will attend” before April 10. If you are NOT planning to join us for 8:00 AM Breakfast, please “write note” on this page, so we know how much food to make!

For those who weren’t able to commit to the SNCITO until on/after April 10, you should be prepared to pay $6.00 for your breakfast.

UPON ARRIVAL at Cass Bridge, please proceed to the registration table. You will be given a name tag and information package, and most importantly, your breakfast ticket. 50/50 Tickets will also be sold throughout the SNCITO.

There are 16 different CITO sites chosen. Some sites will require hard labour, while others may quite literally be a walk in the park. We will do our best to match geocachers with a suitable cleanup site. Some sites are closeby, while others are up to a 30 minute driving distance away (maximum). Cass Bridge is a CITO site, so if you’re finished breakfast early, feel free to CITO the CA!

AT 1:00 PM, Geocachers meet back at Cass Bridge. We have had a great response from sponsors for this event, and have many cool geocaching themed prizes (including unactivated geocoins!)

SOUTH NATION GEOCOINS Will debut at this event. These stunning coins will be available in either Gold or Nickel (Silver) for only $10.00 each or 5 for $45.00.

THE GEOCACHERS OF EASTERN ONTARIO have been busy placing well designed caches throughout the area. Some of these surprises include a canoeing/kayaking inspired cache series that you can find by launching from Cass Bridge!

IF YOU USE A GARMIN Oregon or Colorado device, a link will be posted in a later update to a Google imagery package that can be easily installed and used on these devices. A Wherigo cache is also planned in the area for users of these GPS types (or have a different Wherigo compatible device).

UPDATE APRIL 23: GEO Members are pleased with the level of attendance planned for this event. We will need all the help we can get to fully clean up the 16 different CITO sites. Our Dispatch station will be busy as we match up geocachers with CITO Sites.

Please dress appropriately. Steel toed boots are recommended. Bring water to keep hydrated on this sunny spring day (preferably in a reusable water bottle). If you have a SAFETY VEST please bring it! Some sites are located along roads, and we only have a few safety vests available. If you don’t have a safety vest, please dress in a bright colour so you are easily spotted by passing drivers.

As previously mentioned, IMAGERY (aerial photos, like Google) is available for Oregon/Colorado users for both the CITO Sites and the “Cache the Nation” section of South Nation River with the geocache series between Cass Bridge and Oak Valley. It is as simple as copying and pasting the file to your GPS unit. Please see the instructions and download from the GEO HOMEPAGE.

SOUTH NATION GEOCOINS will be sold at Cass Bridge before and after the cleanup. Available in either GOLD or SILVER, these stunning coins will be sold for $10.00 each, or 5 coins for $45.00.

Please remember to BRING A CAMERA to post pictures to help describe your SNCITO experience when you log your “Attended” log.

GEO is looking forward to seeing you all bright and early at 8:00 AM!
