Within 10 miles of San Francisco lies one of the largest undeveloped pieces of land on the Peninsula's coast. At 4,262 acres, Rancho Corral de Tierra was planned for subdivision and development into large estate residences. Instead, its awe-inspiring views, rich farmlands, important watersheds, miles of public trails, and diverse wildlife remain part of our natural legacy.
With the support of private donors, which leveraged $14 million in grants from the Coastal Conservancy and the California Wildlife Conservation Board, POST has made significant progress toward replenishing the $29.75 million purchase price of Rancho Corral de Tierra. Federal legislation to add the ranch to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) passed the U.S. Senate in July 2005 and the U.S. House of Representatives in December 2005. Passage by both Houses of Congress opens the way to $15 million in federal matching funds and enabling the ranch to be opened to the public.
