This is a large cache hidden on one of the islands of the McKellar Wetland Lagoons.

The McKellar Wetland Lagoons are two shallow marshy areas straddling the border of the Mission Island Marsh area. To get to the cache, you will have to get to the island. In the winter, when the ice is frozen solid, it will not be a problem. In the spring, summer or fall, you'll have to improvise. Fortunately, the islands are only 10–20m from the shore, so think of your options.

This cache was hidden for the Spring Cache Challenge. Do not look for it before 6pm, Friday, May 14, 2010!

As an incentive, there is a special prize in the cache for the FTF!

Our 14th find of the day. Kids were getting tired, we're just about done for the day so, sure lets just take a drive over I said. Probably be able to wade a little bit I said - it must've been found by now. We walked along the shoreline looking for the "wading" area sAz had discussed in the write-up. Alright, I'll give it a shot. No laughing now kids. Off with the shoes and socks, and yes the pants too . I'll try wading just a little bit ... WOW, bottom drops off fast. Okay, back down the shore and I'll try another spot. Certainly signs of activity, but can't really tell if anyone has taken the plunge. Wade here maybe - NOT a chance. Alright, there goes the shirt too. Pen in my mouth, GPS held high in my left hand and I leap (well wade gingerly really) and begin my dog paddle across. Clenching the pen so tightly between your teeth that you're afraid you're going to break it keeps you from hyperventilating. Ewww, mucky bottom. Quick find once I was on the island. WOO-HOO, 2nd to find and the FTF unactivated geocoin left for me - Thanks Shroom (and WM for not taking it)! What's that you're yelling Hunter-mom? I make a sorry sight standing there in my tighty-whiteys and I should hurry back - sure thing. Now don't drop the coin or GPS and don't break the pen. You know the water wasn't so bad. I stood on the shore for awhile letting the wind dry me off and um, letting things retract from their hiding place, if you know what I mean guys. A great experience and completely worth it. Thanks for the cache!! This one will be remembered and discussed often.

Now this is what it's about. Something out of the ordinary, something other than oh here it is, as expected it should be after a short hike. The challenge and quick adventure begins when you realize your options, which are limited. Swim or hold your breath under water, or find a suitable vessel to make it across. Just to let everyone know. It is close, but it is deep. We tried with chest waders after I got off work at 4 p.m, got as far as the hips, and started dropping quick in the soft goose poop bottom. Bail or drown. We bailed.

We seen bare foot, foot prints in the sand so we knew someone had already swam across and this is part of Lake Superior in a way, so water temps were going to be near the death factor. Went back home as it is close ( 2 minutes) , tossed the battleship on the truck, paddled out and then a quick find before the Spring Cache Challenge 2010 at Gargoyles restaurant. The cache was a quick find, but we knew where it was as we seen Shrooms footy prints in the spring going across the ice to the cache location. (We were bored and always walk this area, had an idea where you had put it.) We followed them so, ya we sort of cheated LOL. Nice job and hard to believe People actually jumped in to find this, that's dedication, and our hats are off (ok I don't wear hats) to Wandering man and Hunters-5 for doing the splash. Nice Job Darren and Jenn. Nice Job Indeed.

All I have to say with this one is there is video proof of my exploits. It may have not been the smartest idea I've ever had, nor am I sure how I allowed sAz to convince me it was a good idea to go through with it, but either way there I was on the shores of the lagoon, in my swim suit (yes I had one on), in the pitch black and ready to dive right in. Long story short I took the plunge with my headlamp on and a pen in my mouth and braved the frigid cold water all in the name of FTF glory.
I'm glad to report it was well worth it and I'm sure if you do a google search at some point you will find the video evidence of my madness as I'm sure my photographer will have the professionally edited version loaded to the web in short order.

Thanks for the unique experience sAz. I'm sure it will go down in SCC infamy...

Oh and this was FTF #2 on the night for me.
