Geocache Description:

SLO_FLAG SLOVENSKO

ENG_FLAG ENGLISH

On the way from Bled towards Pokljuka plateau or Vintgar Gorge in Recica (part of Bled) we are greeted by the church of St. Andrew, standing on the hill on our right. In addition to the Church of the Assumption of St. Mary on Bled Island, this is second subsidiary church of the Bled parish. It is an interesting baroquized church, originally built in the 16th century with the remains of fortified walls. The interior is fitted with baroque equipment, altar paintings are the work of F. Jelovšek.

Not far away, beneath the church hill, you can find the Grimšce Manor. It is standing in the natural park at Recica, owned by the Grimšic barons. Among them Jurij Adam Grimschitz, enjoyed a special reputation as the co-founder of the Carniolan Academy of Sciences, the "Academia Operosorum" in Ljubljana. The manor was built by Ahac Grimšic and was renovated around 1850. Baron Ivan Grimšic sold it to diplomat and secret counsellor Baron Josef Schwegl, his compatriot from Gorje. It was renovated between 1887 and 1902, and after World War I it was inherited by the Slovene politician and diplomat, Dr. Ivan Švegel. He renamed it Wilsonia in honour of US president Wilson. Today it again bears the name "Grimšce". (Source: www.bled.si)

This location is interesting point for a visit – it is located on the way between the lake and the village Zasip as well as on the way from Bled to Pokljuka and Vintgar gorge. It merits a detour to discover this piece of Bled.
