The Village of Coloma that exists today looked much different in
its past, and was even known by a different name. Coloma Station
was the name of this small village back when the village was
officially founded, sometime after 1875. The railroad remained in
Coloma Station until 1946.
The posted coordinates will take you to a sign that is found
along the west side of the Coloma Hotel, one of the oldest
buildings in this village. On the sign you will find the year that
the hotel was founded. Let the year be established as ABCD.
As you are standing at the sign the former train tracks would
have been located just yards behind you. If you look just to the
southwest of the hotel you will see the old feedmill. The tracks
ran along the west side of the mill and would likely pass through,
or very near the current grocery store.
The final for this cache will be found at the following
coordinates: N 44 02.(D-1)(A-1)5 W089 3(C-5).(B-8)(B-3)1.
This series is being developed to call attention to interesting
tidbits from the history of Waushara County. While multicaches are
sometimes frowned upon by some cachers, I am hoping that these
multicaches will be viewed as fairly easy to navigate. My intent is
to pass some interesting information on to the cacher and for them
to find the cache without too much difficulty.
