Daning-Lingshi Park Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Granger Guy: Sad to say, ground zero has become a construction site for what looks like a restaurant. I'll archive this one, and have to find a new cache place closer to home.

Geocache Description:

The cache is a magnetic key holder containing just a log book. Bring your own pencil. May be a slight challenge for short people.

You are out of general view when searching for the cache, but muggled caches are a problem in China, so please be very discrete. The cache is most easily approached from the canyon opening to the north. The park has easy access from Exit 3 of Metro Line 1 at Shanghai Circus World.

Note that the map on the Cache Page is misleading as to location. Cache is inside the park near the west entrance.

Daning Lingshi Park in Shanghai is a beautiful, recently constructed park. It is a great escape from this hectic city of 20 million people. In the park, you can hardly tell that you are in a big city. The cache is in a little dead-end man-made canyon constructed of artificial rocks. It seems to be lacking park maintenance, so the fake rocks make a good place to hide a cache.

The cache is just to get you to this park. Plan to spend some time when you visit this cache. On a nice day, you will see many beautiful brides and handsome grooms along with their photographers. You can watch the radio controlled cars and aircraft at a field near the cache. There is a little amusement park with rides for the children, and a huge lake with boats you can rent. There are interesting sculptures depicting many ancient Chinese legends and idiomatic expressions.

The cache is at the west end of the park, just under a mile from the subway. The closest gate is at the west end; you would have to drive or take a taxi to it. There is sometimes a 2 RMB (30 cents US) entrance fee.

Daning-Lingshi Park is a large urban park in Shanghai of ecological views which was newly opened at the threshold of the 21st Century. The Park is east from Gonghexin Rd., west to Yuncheng Rd., North with Guangzhong Rd. (W) and south to Yichuan Rd. & Daning Rd. It has an area of 680 thousand square meters (168 acres), total investment up to approximately 1.8 billion yuan.

As one of the practical and key projects for the people’s benefits by both the municipality and district governments, Daning-Lingshi Park is one of the three greenbelts according to the overall urban plan of Shanghai, whilst the largest centralized greens in Puxi. The park started its construction in 2000, almost completed at early 2002, and opened May 2, 2002. In April of 2004, the former Guangzhong Park became merged into Daning-Lingshi Park.

As for its design concept, Daning-Lingshi Park respects its culture depth which is human oriented and “a harmony between humankind and the nature”. It is designed in a style to preserve nature, inherit history, aiming to a mix and complex between oriental and western worlds, ancient and modern worlds, thus making it a large ecological park featuring hills and waters, while framed by natural landscapes and subtle varied combinations among arbors, shrubs, lawns, ground covers and rare-in-Shanghai swamps.

Daning-Lingshi Park may be divided into four landform sections-the east, south, west and north sections. The east section is formerly Guangzhong Park which includes views like: Amusement Park, Leisure Pavilion, Stream and Bridge, Bamboo Corridor, Fable Sculpture, and Chaofu Restaurant. The south section contains south China views, swamps, rivers, lakes and ports, including views like Life in South China, swamps, and huts. The west section remains with western-style gardens, hills, and forests, including views like Rome Plaza, Shanhe Fountain, European Veranda, and Shanmen Pavilion. The north section is highlighted with lakes, hills and Beihai, whos main views include Shore Causey, Black Boatyard, White Sand Beach, Causeway Stone Bridge, Benglai Wonderland, Dragon to the Sky, and a Conference Center.

The ethereal, peaceful, picturesque nature landscape of Daning-Lingshi Park has become the favorite for urbanites; therefore it ranked in the Top Ten Greatest Sights of Shanghai during a 2005 activity held by youth Daily. It is also recognized as one of “Shanghai Civilized Parks” and a “Three Star Park” by Shanghai Landscape Administration Bureau.
