Apparently this used to be a legitimate roadsign many years ago
when still a gravel road leading up the Verlatenkloof pass. It
gives us a glipse into the condition of the roads back then ... or
perhaps the inadequate suspensions of the cars of the day ... or
both! One can only imagine how fed-up the poor local Divisional
Council manager must have got after receiving yet another complaint
about damaged dentures, driving him to make up this sign. Or was it
perhaps a case of, instead of fixing the problem, he simply fixed
the symptom?
By the late 1990s, the sign deteriorated so badly that the
farmer removed it. However, he was inundated with requests as to
what happened to it, "forcing" him to renovate the sign and put it
back up for all to enjoy again. (Here and

Apparently there is/was an identical sign somewhere else in
South Africa, possibly near Victoria West. Please pass on the
details if you know anything about this.
