Geocache Description:

Pevnostné pásmo Petržalka I. Pamiatka na 2. svetovú vojnu umiestnená na brehu Dunaja. Memory of the WW2nd, located closed tu Danube edge.

Ked sa v roku 1933 dostal v Nemecku k moci Adolf Hitler a pred Európou stála hrozba vojnového konfliktu, zareagovala väcšina európskych štátov budovaním pohranicných opevnení. Výstavba pokracovala do jesene 1938, kedy bolo petržalské opevnenie kompletne stavebne dokoncené vrátane doplnkových objektov a velitelských stanovísk, prekážok, kabeláže, kábelových komôr a studní, vzduchotechniky a vnútorných inštalácií objektov. Fortress sector Petržalka I. When Adolf Hitler came in 1933 in Germany into power and there was a threat of war conflict in Europe, the most of European countries started to build a border fort. The official start of building up of Czechoslovak fort is dated to October 1935 (the final building part was planned into years 1951 – 1952), but already in 1934 were first forts built on Petrzalka`s suburb in Bratislava. These bunkers were very first fortification buildings at Czechoslovak territory after World War 1st. The buliding up proceeded till autumn 1938, when The Petrzalka fortress sector was completely finalized including additive object and command posts, barriers, cabling, cabling cells and water wells, airconditioning and indoor installations of objects. For the defence of fortress was dedicated border battalion nr.50 composed by 1500 soldiers. The fortress of Bratislava had as the only complet zone of border fort high level of finalization and fighting power. At that time it was the ideal of all Czechoslovak fortress sectors. The bunker called S-15 „Ostrov“ (Island) also belongs to Petrzalka fortress sector. It`s built on the top of peninsula between Danube and its` distributary. The cannon and machine gun in fort were able to crush boats on Danube. Comparing to the other bunkers, it has less gunports, because in the direction to the fort S-14, probably in view of configuration of terrain (for adversary hardly straight-way Danubes` distributary), cannons are missing. In this direction it was able to shoot only by machine guns from gunports in fort cupola.
