On Depot Trail near O'Gara Park. The terrain has small trees, and shrubs. Its shouldn't be too hard to find, you just got to keep your eyes open. Its accessible to walking, biking, or dog walking. Also you wont have to move anything. Just think clever. If you do move anything, please put it back as you found it.
In 1870 a route was surveyed from the Boston and Albany Railroad at South Spencer to the center of the village. The issue was brought to a town meeting in 1872 where the idea was voted "to pass over the article." Various other surveys were now made covering this and many other routes. It wasn't brought up again until April 7, 1877, where the article was passed over once again. After several other meetings on the same subject, the town finally, on April 3, 1878, voted to spend approximately $25,000 on building the railroad. In 1878, a 2 1/4 mile railroad was built, connecting Spencer Center with the Boston-Albany Railroad at Spencer Depot NE with the station being at South Spencer. After it was decommissioned and removed, it was tuned into Depot Trail. It now connects Chestnut Street and S. Spencer Road. This cache is located not too far off the trail. It should be obvious to find.
ALSO- If anybody has any information on the Depot Trail and/or the train tracks that once ran through here, please share it. I can't find alot of information on either of the two. The library in town had no info on this area at all.
Congrats to sgarrand for the FTF!!!
