Called the most beautiful inland harbor in the world by some, Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe is an awesome sight. The creek that falls into the bay, decends from Eagle Lake about a mile up from the bay.
The trail up to the lake is a granite staircase, and the park service has done a great job building this trail. This is also a route to take to enter the Desolation Wilderness.
Since you are just there for a few hours, don't worry about the signs unless you are staying overnight or continuing on into the wilderness area. Stop in town before you come up and grab some stuff for a picnic, like Sweater Cache, this is an ideal picnic spot!
The hike should only take about 30-40 minutes and the littlest czechcacher made it and he is only 4 (but a tough 4).
There is a cool footbridge that spans Eagle creek at N38-57.028,W120.06.915 that is just 15 minutes up from the parking lot. Continue up to Eagle lake another 20 minutes or so.
To find out why we named the cache you have to visit the site. Please take a photo of yourself or your fellow cachers.
UPDATE: 9-1-02
Czechcachers updated the GPS numbers and took out all the food in the cache. PLEASE DON'T LEAVE FOOD! Critters will try their hardest to get it in the winter.
Also: Santa has been nabbed! Somebody took him, so hopefully they will turn him into a travel bug.
Camera has 6 shots left.
Czechcachers!
