Geocache Description:

Sax Man's Campout

(7th annual)

July 9-11, 2010

This campout is the longest running annual gathering of Geocachers in the Rocky Mountain Region! It draws primarily from Colorado, but has brought cachers from other states as well as another country. We've brought cachers together from Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Washington, Wyoming, and Germany. Let’s see how many more states and countries we can have represented!

This year the 4th of July is on Sunday. Not everyone has Monday off, so we're having this the following weekend since there are more campsites available. The official dates are Friday, July 9th through Sunday, July 11th. This campout is just south of Colorado Springs, so even if you have to work on Friday you can still arrive well before it gets dark.

Event Schedule (tentative):
Friday evening: Hot tub party! Yes, there is a hot tub at this campground, so we plan on using it.
Saturday Morning: Pancake breakfast provided by your hosts (but volunteers are always welcome to help and/or donate food)
Saturday Late Morning: Adults hike, Kids activities
Saturday Afternoon: Multicache challenge
Accuracy Contest
Saturday Evening: Potluck dinner
7:30pm - Awards Ceremony and prize drawing around Sax Man's campfire.
Tickets for the drawing will be sold throughout the weekend. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5.

Sunday Morning: Clean up your camp area and find some caches on your way home.

This campground is at an elevation of around 6,000 ft. Temperatures remain warm in the summer (80's-90's likely) but there is always a chance of afternoon thunderstorms to cool things off. There are trees, but we can't have enough shade structures (hint hint). There are restrooms and showers (yes, showers!) at this campground. There is also a play area for the kids.

Reservation info:
Reservations are a must, but do not call the campground! To reserve a site, email me with the number of people in your party and the type and size rig you're bringing (25' 5th wheel, 20'RV, VW Van, etc). Our initial block of sites is 1-7 and 11-16. Once these sites are full, you'll need to contact the campground directly to see if there are other sites available. Your hosts will be in site #5, just across the driveway from the pavilion.

Including tax, the group rate is approximately $30 per night per space. If you have a large party, there may be an additional charge for the extra people. Payment will be taken care of at the office when you arrive at the campground on July 9th.

As always, more details will be added as the event gets closer. Please put this event on your watchlist if you want to receive updates.
