Das Hochmoor Leckermoos ist eines der größten und schönsten Hochmoore in Niederösterreich.
Das Moor ist uhrglasförmig gewölbt und verfügt über einen Torfkörper von ca. 7 m. Das Volumen des Torfkörpers beträgt ca. 250.000 m³. Als Besonderheit weißt das Leckermoos einen kleinen Moortümpel, das so genannte Moorauge, auf. Im trockeneren, sanft abfallenden Randbereich wachsen Latschen und Fichten. Der Randsumpf ist von Bruchwald gekennzeichnet.
Entstehung des Leckermoos
Die Entstehung von Hochmooren begann vor ca. 7000 Jahren und begann in Wannen, die zuvor von Gletschern abgedichtet wurden. In diesen Wannen bildeten sich Seen. Durch Schlammablagerungen und absterbende Torfmoose verlandeten diese Seen zusehens und durch die reichlichen Niederschläge in der Region bildeten sich schließlich Hochmoore. Das Moorwachstum beträgt ca. 1 mm pro Jahr. Daher weißen die meisten Hochmoore der Alpen einen Torfkörper von ca. 7 m auf. Durch die Torfzusammensetzung werden Pollen- und Pflanzenreste als auch Tier- und Menschenleichen konserviert, wodurch sich die Geschichte, das Klima und Umwelteinflüsse vergangener Zeiten analysiert werden können.
Um diesen Earthcache loggen zu dürfen, musst du folgende Aufgaben erfüllen bzw. Fragen beantworten:
1. Mache bitte ein Bild von dir oder deinem GPS.
2. Am Ende welches Erdzeitalters begann das Hochmoorwachstum?
3. Wie nennt man die von Gletschern aufgeschütteten Talsperren noch?
4. Schätze die Seehöhe, in der sich das Hochmoor befindet.
Sende uns die Antworten auf die Fragen 2, 3 und 4 und füge deinem Log das Foto von Aufgabe 1 hinzu. Du brauchst die Logerlaubnis nicht abwarten. Sie wird jedoch ohne richtiges Foto gelöscht.

The highmoor Leckermoos is one of the biggest und most beautiful highmoors in Lower Austria.
The moor is arched and has a peat-body of ~ 7 m. The volume of the peat-body is about 250.000 m³. A small moor-pool is the characteristic of the Leckermoos. Mountain pines and spruces are growing in the dry and gentle shelving area around the moor. The swamp around the moor is marked with break-wood.
Formation of the Leckermoos
The formation of Highmoors started 7000 years ago. Lakes started to grow in dams banked up by glaciers. Because of sludge deposition, stalled peak-moss and the heavy rainfalls in the region, the lakes began to become overgrown and the building of the highmoor started. Highmoors are growing about 1 mm per year. Therefore, most of the highmoors in the alpes have a peak-body of around 7 m. Due to the consistence of the peak, pollen, plants or bodies are preserved very well. That's the reason why the history, the climate and environmental influances can be analyzed with peak-humus.
In order to log this earthcache, you have to fulfill the following tasks and answer the following questions:
1. Take a picture of you or your GPS.
2. At the end of which geological era has the growth of the highmoor started?
3. How are the dams banked up by glaciers called geologically?
4. Estimate the sea level of the highmoor.
Please send the answers to questions 2, 3 and 4 to MAJAGERS. Add to your log the picture of task 1. You don’t need to wait for a reply in order to log. However, logs without a proper picture will be deleted.
