#5 in a series
of discontinued, abandoned, or long forgotten roads within
Townsend.
Townsend has more than a few roads that over the course of time
have been abandoned, discontinued, or maintenance has stopped on
them.
Seaver Road was named for Abraham Seaver, a prominent school
committee member from the 1840s. There were 10 separate "school
districts" in town...each district had it's own one-room school
house, one being in the South Row District of Townsend bordering
Lunenburg.
Some current maps show Seaver Road stretching from South Row Road
in Townsend and meeting up with Island Road in Lunenburg, but it
has been many, many years since anyone could travel from one end to
the other.
I was not able to find "the other end" of Seaver Road in Lunenburg,
and when I asked several folks in the Island Road neighborhood if
they knew where it was, they all said that it NEVER had connected
with Island Road.
...hhhmmm - sounds like another road lost to time, memory, and the
elements.
Happy
'Caching!
