Geocache Description:

This cache is located near the site of Meeting House Rock in the Sullivan Town Forest. An old road to the cache starts behind the Sullivan fire station. You may park in front of the library located to the right of the fire station. Approximately 0.4 mile walk on the old road to the cache. No need to bushwhack if you follow the road.

The road to the Meeting House Rock is the Old Stoddard Road, which was part of the original road from Keene to Stoddard. The Meeting House Rock was erected in 1905 where the pulpit of Sullivan's first meeting house was once located. The meeting house was completed in 1791. The last service was held on Christmas Day in 1808. The building thereafter stood in ruins for many years until one night it fell to the ground with a loud crash. A second ceremony in recognition of the site was held at Meeting House Rock on 08/03/1962 with approximately 80 people in attendance. The first sermon ever preached in Sullivan was conducted in a barn in June 1788 located on the right-hand side of the road leading to Meeting House Rock at the junction of Old Stoddard Road with Frost Road (which heads off to the left of Old Stoddard Road).
