Being inspired by Hayred’s Moose View series, I found this to be a good spot for another one.
Just another beaver pond in the woods - I flushed a pair of mallard ducks and a turtle, and saw fresh moose tracks.
This is a good place to stop if you need to stretch your legs on the long drive up here. It’s also our favorite camping spot - we came up this weekend before Memorial Day, not expecting to find the gate open but it was! I had no plans to hide any caches so had to make one up when we got here. It’s just Tupperware and duct tape (what more do you need?) and some goodies I had in the camper. I’ll bring a bigger container next time we get up here.
To get there from Rt 9 in Searsburg: take Somerset Rd, go past the airport campsites and follow #71 Road for another 7 miles. Turn onto #86 Road at the coordinates below. It’s an easy .4 mile walk from here, or you can drive ¼ mile further depending on road conditions. In winter you can snowmobile to it - it should be winter friendly depending on how much snow we have.
Update 7/18/10
Replaced the container with one a bit sturdier, and restocked it with more goodies. No moose this weekend either, but amazingly enough, no bugs either! (I make no guarantees you will find the same situation though!)
