Geocache Description:

A pleasant walk along the Wagon Way trail to the Wagon Way Bridge.

The Wagon Way Bridge

Follow the Wagon Way trail along the South Bank of the River Ayr. The wagon way is a former railway that was used for the transportation of coal through the Auchincruive Estate.

Initially coal wagons were pulled along by horses and laterly by locomotives. There is clear evidence of the industrial past to this area along the route. Look for coal and slag disturbed from the ground by fallen trees along the route.

The cache location is at the south pier of the first of two 'Wagon Way' bridges that spanned the River Ayr near the Auchincruive Estate.

The bridge was clearly a substantial structure and the foundations on the opposite bank are testimony to that.

The cache itself is a traditional clip lock box hidden near the stonework of the bridge.

If you have children with you take care. There are steep drops to the river nearby.

Parking:- During the Winter the gates to the Oswald Hall Car Park are closed in the evenings and at weekends. Entry is through the main college gate through the automatic barrier. Turn right and follow the signs for Oswald Hall.

Happy hunting and enjoy the walk.
