Geocache Description:

TAURANGA AIRPORT

Please do not go to the listed co-ordinates. To find the co-ordinates of the cache, you will first have to solve the Sudoku Puzzle below.

First, some background information about the airport:

Tauranga Airport opened on January 18, 1939. In 1940, the land was acquired for the development of an RNZAF training station and two years later, the main hangar was built by the Ministry of Works. Airline services began in 1946 with L-10-A and DC3 airliners.

In 1967 construction began on a 1,280 metre runway, a control tower, and a passenger terminal. The airport is owned by the Tauranga City Council, and was recently refurbished with a meeting room and Koru Club regional lounge installed above the departure lounge.

Because of the intensive growth of the Tauranga region, the airport has now been hemmed in by residential and industrial development. Although the airport can easily cater for the occasional Boeing 737 charter service, air traffic controllers have to co-ordinate with Tauranga Port authority to ensure the port's container crane arms are lowered if arrivals are in a westerly direction due to that aircrafts' lower approach vectors.

Recently a study into the feasibility of a new airport at Paengaroa was produced but Tauranga Airport is yet to reach full operational capacity.

And now for the puzzle:

What is Sudoku? Sudoku is a logic puzzle that has been popular in Japan for about 20 years. Each Column, Row and ‘3x3’ Box must contain only one of each number from 1 to 9. Using a process of elimination, it is possible to narrow down a number's location in the grid. Once you've solved one number's location, you will find that this will open up new areas where you can start the process of elimination over again. Working in pencil is also a good idea.

The cache is located at:

South 37 (G9) 0.(H2)(C9) 0; East 176 (H8)(D3).(C7)(B9)(C5)

This is a great spot to watch the old planes from at the weekends, we have brought young children here before, and they find it all quite interesting. Permission for this cache was obtained from the airport prior to placement, 'security' know all about it.

And here's a further challenge for you ... if you think you can find the cache in under 20 minutes, you can park for free. If you think it's going to take more than 20 minutes, you will be able to find a free park nearby, you'll just have to walk a little further.
