Shaker Your Plate Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

polypoon: I went to check on the cache yesterday and couldn't find it after looking around for a bit. Why? Because it wasn't where I originally placed it. In the past when there have been DNF's I've gone to look for it and have found it on the ground, on the front/back side of the stone wall and even behind rocks. Originally, the cache was in plain site, a black plastic film container with a grey top. I don't think it's cute/clever when a geocacher finds a cache but decides to place it somewhere else fpr the next cacher. Therefore, sadly to say, this cache has been archived.

Geocache Description:

Look north over the field in front of you towards the white gambrel roof Meeting House and imagine 40 Brothers, 4 rows of 10 with scythes, wearing their straw broad-brimmed hats. One of them starts to sing, the others chime in and swinging their scythes in unison, the field is “mowed” in no time flat.

One of the first Utopian societies in America, their numbers eventually grew to include 19 villages. Here in Canterbury, there were 350 Brothers and Sisters, who lived in equality although separate from one another on 3,000 acres of land. What they couldn’t make or grow, they would buy from the outside world and sell to also.

They believed in modern technology and were often the first in the area to try something new. If it worked for them, they would keep it, if it didn’t, they would improve upon it.

They are (yes, there are still members in Maine) ingenious people who have been credited with inventing the common clothes pin, the precursor to the modern day washing machine, the flat broom, seed packets and a sister perfected both the circular saw and cut nails.

They worked hard. They lived a simple life. Enjoy the beauty of the surroundings and of a time gone by.
