Geocache Description:

Souhegan High School's Robotic Team 138's Entropy cache.

Entropy is a measure of how disorganized a system is and is an important part of the second law of thermodynamics. In technical applications, machines are basically energy conversion devices. Such devices can only be driven by convertible energy. The product of thermal energy and entropy is "already converted energy". This is the reason why Rudolf Clausius in 1850 coined the term "entropy" based on the Greek entropía, en and trope (turn, conversion).

Unofficially, it means "total chaos" - which is what we do for 6 weeks. This team name has stuck with us even though most freshmen have to look it up in the dictionary. The official definition that we use is: A measure of the disorder or randomness in a closed system, or a measure of the loss of information in a transmitted message. The formula, according to Shannon, gives the entropy H(M) of a message M in bits: H(M) = -log2 p(M) Where p(M) is the probability of message M.

We are the Souhegan High School's Robotics Team. We participate in the US First's robotics competition that is held every year. In very early January, all teams get a kit of parts and the description of what the year's challenge consists of. We then have 6 weeks, to design, build and test the robot before the regional competition. It is fun, intense and very enjoyable in a strange way. This cache was inspired by one of our local competitor's (team 1519) Milford's Mechanical Mayhem's cache, which one of the team members found this past spring.

This is a small plastic container. There are several walking trails in the area. However, due to other multi caches in the that area, this one is a bit remove from the walking paths across the street.
Parking can be difficult during school hours and during sporting events. Afternoons and early evenings are probably the best time.
You may want to bring bug spray.

Parking is available at the listed waypoint. Do not park of the nearby street or where posted. Finding this cache should definitely be easier than building a working robot in 6 weeks.
