Geocache Description:

Numbers 23 & 24 are associated with a hoax played on unsuspecting guests so don't be fooled.
If you knock on the front doors and ask the tenants for help all you will get is hot air.
Only one thing is for certain at this address and that is the cache is nearby.
Keep an ear close to the ground for passing trains as the vibrations may stir it loose.
Its not in or on any rubbish bins so no need to go poking around the trash.
Paper log but bring a pen.

(((As of September 2010 there is renovation work taking place on the hotel nearby. The larger cache was getting muggled and TBs and Geocoins are now missing. So I am placing a smaller 35mm film temporary cache while the building work takes place.) The cache is also going in a new location which is very close to the old spot. It is much easier now.)

Please use stealth during working hours as the builders are on to this cache area. Also do not enter the hotel grounds at the moment. The cache location is outside the white stone walls.)))

Location description:
Leinster Gardens is a street in Bayswater, London. It has two false façades at numbers 23 & 24, constructed at the time of the original steam engine-hauled underground railway that had a short section exposed to the surface.
Locomotives were fitted with condensers to reduce fumes, but "venting off" was still needed in open-air sections to relieve the condensers and keep the tunnels free from smoke. In this upmarket area, the railway company hid this unsightly practice from residents. The false façade also maintained a continuous frontage along a prestigious terrace. But if you venture around the back of the building on Porchester Terrace and look over the wall you can see the train tracks below.
The front façade is 5 feet (1.5 m) thick with 18 blackened windows. The doors have no letter boxes.
In the 1930s, a hoax was played on guests who were sold 10 Guinea tickets to a charity ball at Leinster Gardens, only to turn up in evening dress to discover the address was fake.
