1974. – 1991. gads
Starptautiskas lidosta „Riga” eka tika uzcelta 1974.gada oktobri. Toreiz ta darbojas ka vieteja lidosta bijušas PSRS robežas. Taja laika ta bija „Aeroflot” administrativa sastavdala bez tiesibam pastavigi saimniekot. Lidostas ienakumi tika nosutiti uz centraliem „Aeroflot” parvaldes norekinu rekiniem Maskava, kas pec tam tika sadaliti starp PRSR lidostam un aviosabiedribas „Aeroflot” filialem. Tikai, atjaunojot neatkarigu Latvijas valsti 1991.gada un, pamatojoties uz LR valdibas lemumu, bijusi „Aeroflot” filiale tika sadalita un izveidoti tris saimnieciski pastavigi uznemumi – „Latvijas Gaisa satiksme”, aviosabiedriba „Latvijas aviolinijas”, ka ari valsts lidostu uznemums „Riga”, kura ietilpa starptautiska lidosta „Riga”, „Liepaja” un „Daugavpils”.
Starptautiska lidosta „Riga” ir lielakais starptautiskas aviacijas uznemums Baltija un ir ši regiona galvenais gaisa satiksmes centrs, kas nodrošina regularu pasažieru satiksmi, kravas un pasta parvadašanu ar civilas aviacijas gaisa kugiem uz Eiropas un citam pasaules valstu pilsetam. Starptautiska lidosta „Riga” sniedz gan aviacijas (lidmašinu, pasažieru un kravu apkalpošana), gan neaviacijas pakalpojumus (telpu un teritorijas noma, autostavvietas, VIP centra pakalpojumi u.c.). Ta apkalpo gan vietejas, gan starptautiskas aviolinijas un ir kluvusi par vienu no nedaudzajam Eiropas lidostam, kas apkalpo pilna servisa un zemo izmaksu lidsabiedribas.

1974 – 1991
The building of the RIGA International Airport was built in October 1974. At that time it operated as the local airport within the territory of former USSR. At that time it was the administrative component of “Aeroflot” without the rights to manage independently. The incomes of the airport were sent to the central accounting bills of “Aeroflot” in Moscow and then they were distributed among the airports of USSR and affiliated of the airline “Aeroflot”. Only after the restoration of Latvian independence in 1991, the resolution of the government of the Republic of Latvia the former affiliate of “Aeroflot” was divided into three economically independent companies:“Latvijas Gaisa satiksme”, airline “Latvijas aviolinijas”, as well as the national airport company “Riga” that included the international airport “Riga”, “Liepaja” and „Daugavpils”.
RIGA International Airport is the largest international aviation company in the Baltic’s and the main air traffic centre in this region offering regular passenger, cargo and postal delivery to the cities of Europe and world. The RIGA International Airport renders both aviation (airplane, passenger and cargo attendance) and non-aviation services (lease, parking spaces, VIP centre services, etc.). It attends both national and international airlines becoming one of the few European airports that attends both full service and low costs airlines.
From the RIGA International Airport it is possible to go to 82 destinations.
In 2008 RIGA International Airport attended 3.6 million passengers.
