Wander around the old Oceanic Hotel on Star Island, follow the paths or relax in a rocking chair on the porch. Walk to Gosport Chapel, where conferees still carry lanterns to light the chapel, a procession of silence to honor the original settlers of the fishing village of the 1600's.
Rustic Star Island, among the rocky, windy Isles of Shoals off the coast of New Hampshire, is a non-profit retreat and conference center. The Star Island Corporation has owned and operated the island as a religious and educational facility since 1915 and welcomes geocaching visitors. Steeped in history as a fishing community since the early 1600’s, Star Island has become a respite from the hectic pace of life for generations of families attending week-long conferences throughout the summer. For information about visiting for a day, a night, or up to a week, and how to get to Star Island, go to the starisland.org website. Once there, enjoy wandering about the island and its paths (wandering from paths means encountering poison ivy) and relax in a rocking chair on the porch as you wait for the boat to return you to the mainland. (One of four caches placed with the permission of Star Island management. Cache is a typical ammo can.)
