Geocache Description:

As you travel the TLH to the south coast of Labrador, just stop for a few mins and view this Glacial deposit. One of many in Labrador.

As the last Glacier, approximately 20,000 years ago, scraped across North America they crushed the bed rock into small pieces, carrying this sediment along with it. As the melt water made its way through the large tunnels or cracks in the glacier. The water flowing through these tunnels deposited sediment, when the tunnel widened and slowed the flow of water, forming what we know today as Eskers.

Eskers can be of various sizes, ranging from a few meters to tens of meters high. They can run for kilometers or for just short distances. Eskers can be broad at the base and flat topped, some have single peaks while others have parallel ridges.

Eskers are made up of various size sand, gravel, and rock

As you drive from Goose Bay to Labrador south along the Western and Southern edge of the Mealy Mountains, you pass through Forested and boggy areas. This Esker is along the South West edge of the Mealy Mountains. During the construction of the Trans Labrador Highway connecting Central and Western Labrador to the South Coast of Labrador, part of this Esker was used as road construction material. As the Esker was cut through you can see a good cross section of what an Esker is made of.

To claim this Cache you must post a picture of you or part of yourself with your GPS and the Esker in the background and e-mail the answer to 3 questions. Please don't post the answers with your log.

1. The height above sea level at the cache location?
2. The general direction the Esker is traveling?
3. The approximate height of the Esker?
