West Maury Lookout was a 14'X14' cabin built in 1954 and destroyed in 1970. All that is left is the concrete pillars on top of the narrow peak at 6000' elevation.
To access this site you need to travel 3 miles on Rd 1750 from the Sherwood Intersection (where roads 16, 1640 and 1750 intersect). Then take Rd 280 for .8 mile. This part of the road is VERY ROUGH and rocky. We did it on our dual sport motorcycles, but it was tricky. If you don't have a jeep or 4-wheelers we suggest parking at the bottom and walking the .8 mile to the top.
When you get to the top look for the standard lookout type cache on the southwest corner under the base of a very large boulder. This site probably gets a few muggles so please recover well. Have fun and be safe!!
