This series is dedicated to Vermont's nesting wood warblers, a
family of small North American songbirds, many of whom sport bright
colors and sing songs that can be learned with patience and
practice. They return from their wintering grounds just as the
leaves—and insects—begin to come out.
Yellow Warblers are among the most familiar of the family. They
nest in shrubby wetlands and wet overgrown fields. Their song is
one of the most easily recognized of all the warblers that can be
described as a rapid “Sweet, sweet, sweety tee tee
sweet.” The male’s body is mostly yellow with some
reddish or cinnamon streaks on his breast, and the female is nearly
as bright, though a little more toward olive. There is a ring of
these warblers around most any pond and a ribbon of them along most
streams that meander through open areas.
You might want to search for this cache after finding
Chestnut-sided Warbler to make parking easier.
Abundance and habitat data are from Birdwatching in Vermont
by Ted Murin and Bryan Pfeiffer.
FTF honors go to RSAKVT.
