Proctor Park Micro Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

geo-spaz: After the recent post I rode my bike up here for a little look around. I knew construction had been going on but didn't realize it had progressed this far.

Yes - the area is completely developed now and the road that used to be a dirt track used for maintenance vehicles to get to some areas is now paved with continuous traffic from the next homes built (and being built) nearby.

Sadly - this one is no longer available and the correct move is to archive it. It was fun while it lasted.

Thanks to all those that took the time to visit.

Geocache Description:

While caching, I always try to figure out what caused the person hiding the cache to want to share this location with others – I try to keep that in mind when I’m selecting a spot to hide a cache.

This is a micro in the woods but the reason I’ve decided to put it here is because this is a somewhat unknown section of Nashua. Proctor Park is almost landlocked – but there are a couple access points. My favorite is the trailhead at N42 42.667 / W071 27.257. This is the gated access to a dirt road (Dozer Road) that’s great for a quick run on a mountain bike before or after work. It’s about 1.2 miles from the gate to the cache so a bike is the way to go. It’s mostly uphill on the way in, but it’s almost all downhill on the way out so it evens out.

The official access point, according to the Nashua Parks & Rec department is at N 42 44.008 / W 071 27.553 – this is between a couple of houses on Spindlewick Drive. There’s parking for one car and a trail that leads into Proctor Park. There is a fence there, and you keep the fence on your left as you go in. In all honesty, I’ve never gone in that way – it looks just too close to going in thru someone’s yard – so I stay away from there, but that is a public access point.

To note – if you stay on the dirt road and travel past the cache, you end up deeper into Proctor Park – the road / trail gets pretty tough to find once you get to the power lines so that’s another reason to come in the way I suggest. It may be a struggle to get to the cache from the official access point – I don’t know, I haven’t done it.

The cache is a micro, winter-friendly, and is a log only cache. There is a small pencil in the cache but you’d be wise to bring your own writing instrument.

Enjoy the hike / ride / run / views – it’s probably a part of Nashua not seen by too many.
